Britain's Weirdest Celeb Crushes

We might not want to admit it, but we've all had at least one weird celeb crush over the years. You know the one we're talking about - the kind of crush that should be so wrong but, somehow, it just feels so right!

Killer abs and a Hollywood smile might be nowhere to be seen, but it doesn't matter. This celeb crush has a different, special kind of something that manages to render us all completely weak at the knees.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we were more curious than ever to find out which weird but wonderful celebs were making hearts all over the country skip a beat. Surveying almost 2,000 Brits, our recent survey has revealed some rather interesting results. We even held an Ant versus Dec showdown - can you guess who came out on top?

77% of our participants admitted they had a crush on a celebrity, with a huge 44% claiming they were more attracted to a celeb than their own partner. A further 26% recalled fancying a fictional character at least once in their lives too, and by fictional we mean someone a little more quirky than the dreamboat that is Prince Charming!

Move over Brad Pitt, our celeb crush survey revealed the title of most desirable male has been unanimously awarded to silver fox Phillip Schofield. Stealing hearts with his regular appearances on This Morning, the TV personality won over 22% of survey participants. It's not just women swooning over the presenter either - 17% of men weren't ashamed to admit they found Schofield attractive.

Danny Dyer wasn't far behind Philip Schofield, and our survey revealed that he's apparently just as desirable on screen as he is off screen. While he might have narrowly missed out on being crowned the top male celeb crush by 1%, his EastEnders persona Mick Carter was crowned the sexiest male fictional character. Believe it or not, Sherlock wasn't far behind Carter with 17% being unable to resist his brilliant mind.

It's unfortunate news for some of our males, however, in particular Sherlock's brother. Mycroft Holmes doesn't seem to quite do it for Brits, losing out with only 3% of the nation dreaming about him at night!

As for Ant and Dec, both I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here hosts seemed to get viewers all hot under the collar, nabbing third and fifth place. Yet, out of the two, it was Dec with 16% who will be crowned King of the Jungle.

We can't forget our all-important female celeb crushes, of course! The queen of Countdown, Carol Vorderman, has been named the public's guilty pleasure, just beating Jessica Ennis, Charlotte Crosby and Scarlett Moffatt to first place. We can't argue with the maths, as 19% placed Carol as their top female celeb crush.

Gone are old-fashioned fairy tales it seems. The top five female fictional characters we're all crushing on are from the UK's biggest soaps. It seems we can't get enough of the girls from EastEnders and Corrie, with Stacey Slater (EastEnders) and Michelle Connor (Coronation Street) beating all the rest at 21% each.

Sometimes, there really is no explanation as to why we find a celeb so irresistible. Maybe it's their humour, their underdog status or something more psychological about being exposed to their wonderful faces day after day. Whatever it is, there's no need to question it -the heart wants what it wants, after all.
