What your partner really wants this Valentine's Day
When it comes to love and romance, it’s not always easy to know what people want. To give people a helping hand, we had a look into the state of love in Britain in 2019, and found out what gestures men and women find the most romantic.
Delving into the love lives of British people in relationships, we discovered under half wish their partners were more romantic (49%), though women are more likely to wish for more from their partners than men. We also asked what men and women find the most romantic to give a helping hand to anyone thinking how to bring a bit more romance into their relationships.

What women want
For ladies, actions speak louder than words as the simple gesture of a flower bouquet comes out on top with two thirds of women saying it is romantic (61%), beating holding hands with a partner (54%) and even being told ‘I love you’ (59%).
The most romantic gestures for British women are:
- Being given flowers
- Being told I love you
- Holding hands
- Kissing
- Getting taken out for a meal
- Getting surprised by your partner
- Getting breakfast in bed
- Getting a compliment from your partner
- Your partner cooking you a meal
- Love notes
What men want
For men however, those three little words are more than enough with being told ‘I love you’ seen as the most romantic gesture (58%), followed by kissing (55%) and holding hands (55%).
Surprisingly men said they preferred kissing, finding it more romantic than women (55% vs 45%). They are also more likely to appreciate a massage (27% vs 24%).
