Gods of Troy by Red Tiger Gaming is a 5x4 online slot set in Ancient Greece. As usual with Red Tiger Gaming slots, it’s visually very well-designed, with the grid set in Greek columns. With a title like that, I expected the graphics to be a bit more, well, graphic. But the studio has kept it very restrained, and saved all the action for the reels, including a great Wild feature in the base game that adds a whole new twist to gameplay. 

The usual Ten to Ace card ranks are the low pays, worth a maximum of  0.8 to 1.8 times the bet for a five-of-a-kind win. For premiums there are horns, vases of coins, chariots, a helmet, awarding a max 2 to 5x the bet for 5 of a kind. The most valuable regular symbol is Helen of Troy, paying 10x the bet for five. The betting range is between 0.20 and 10.00 per spin.

The Scatter is three helmeted soldiers. This can appear anywhere on the grid, and three or more will trigger the Free Spins. 

The Golden Shield symbol that lands during the base game is a type of Wild, but acts a little differently, as I'll explain below. Wilds can appear on all reels, but only on every tenth spin. They will then stand in for regular symbols to help form wins, as well as paying 300x the line bet for a combo of 5. 

Gameplay is a bit different in God’s of Troy, with spins played in batches of 10, with a counter above the grid keeping track. During the first nine spins of each batch, Golden Shield symbols can land. When they do they leave a Golden Wreath behind. If a Shield lands on a position already crowned by a Wreath, it will duplicate elsewhere on the grid. On the 10th spin, all the symbols in positions covered by a Wreath turn Wild. The grid then resets for the next batch of 10. 

Three or more scatters are in view on any base game spin except the 10th, when they don't land, will trigger the Troy Spins. Before the round starts, players spin a wheel to see how many free spins and guaranteed Wilds they'll be awarded. The more Scatters that trigger the feature, the higher the options with 3 Scatters awarding a max of 15 spins 10 wilds, 4 awarding up to 25 spins and 12 wilds, and 5 can result in a max of 50 spins and 15 wilds.

During free spins, the guaranteed Wilds are always present on the reels, either moving around the grid or sticking between spins. Every Scatter that lands during the bonus round adds one more spin to the remaining total. The base game Golden Wreaths feature isn't active in the Free Spins. 

This is an interesting game, and potentially very rewarding with the Golden Wreath feature almost guaranteeing a win on every tenth spin. But the battlefield is still a volatile place, like this game, so always set a loss limit before playing.
