The original version of The Dog House, released back in May of 2019, was a huge hit with players. The upbeat cartoon-style graphics, and great features made it such a hit that now the developers, Pragmatic Play, have released a sequel, The Dog House Megaways.
Fans of the original will be happy to see not much has changed with the visuals, and the same goofy pack of pups are back. The grid, of course, is a bit different, with 6 reels, each landing between 2 and 7 symbols on every spin.
The usual Megaways extra horizontal reel is missing, but the grid can still produce up to 117,649 ways to win. The number of active paylines on every spin is displayed just above the reels. And there are a couple of other features we’ve come to expect from Megaways games missing, but I’ll tell you about that below.
The symbols will be familiar to anyone who has played the original Dog House game - 10 to A card ranks and themed premiums; bones, collars, dachshunds, pugs, Shih Tzus, and Rottweilers. Although, with the addition of more ways to win, the values of these have decreased, with a combo of six of the premium pups being worth between 1.5 and 7.5 times the stake. Bets can be made in a range of 0.20 to 100.00.
The dog house is the Wild, landing on the middle four reels to stand in for regular symbols. It can also come with a random multiplier of either x 2 or x3 attached. If more than one multiplier Wild is involved in a win, the multipliers are added together.
The puppy paw print is back as the Scatter, and once again, it is key to triggering the Free Spins.
The Dog House Megaways slot looks like a Megaways slot, which means it has that familiar 6-7 setup. It has colourful visuals filled with different types of dogs. And, no, it's not just for show. The great visuals and audio are excellent, but the online slot has specs that are quite impressive.
Players who were hoping for the usual Megaways features of cascading reels and mystery symbols will be disappointed, as the Free Spins are the only bonus feature in the game apart from the multiplier Wilds.
But not to worry, Pragmatic Playl has kept things interesting by offering two different bonus rounds for players to choose from, each with a different number of spins and different features. Once three or more Scatters land players get to pick between the Sticky Wilds Free Spins and the Raining Wilds Free Spins.
In the Sticky Wild Free Spins, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters awards 7, 12, 15, or 20 free spins. Here, 2 to 7 sticky Wilds with multipliers of x1 to x3 can land on each reel, and stick for the remainder of the round.
Triggering the Raining Wilds Free Spins with 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters will award 15, 18, 25, or 30 free spins, respectively. During this round, up to 6 Wilds with multipliers of up to 3 x can be added randomly to the reels.
Some players might not be happy that Pragmatic Play left out the Cascading Reels. But all in all, I think that's only a minor fault in an otherwise great game. Just remember, the dog house is fun to visit, but you don't want to get stuck there, so always set a loss limit before playing. Good Luck!
