Money Wheel or Wheel of Fortune type games have been taking the gambling world by storm in recent years. Now, large spinning wheels surrounded by crowds of excited players are a common sight in land-based casinos all over the world.
And thanks to developers like Playtech, online gamblers don’t need to miss out on the action. Spin A Win is a live casino game based on the Money Wheel format.
The central part of the appeal of this type of game is its simplicity. A numbered wheel spins, and players bet on where it will land. It's a bit like roulette but without the zero pockets and complicated betting options.
And such a simple format is hard to improve on. So it comes as no surprise when, at first glance, Spin A Win seems to be a carbon copy of Evolution's Dream Catcher.
But Playtech didn't become a leading name in the world of online gambling game developers by just copying other companies' ideas. While Evolution's game was developed with slot players in mind, Playtech are targeting fans of roulette. They've added some interesting side bets to the basic format to establish a difference between their game and others on the market.
Spin A Win is live-streamed from Playtech's studios. The game show format includes chatty and friendly hosts who keep the players entertained and the excitement levels high with their running commentary, jokes and general banter.
Players have six betting options to choose from. These are the numbers 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 40. The game is played on a large vertical wheel. The host will spin this in alternate directions after each round of betting has taken place.
The wheel itself is divided into 53 segments. Fifty-one segments are dedicated to the numbers, with each number appearing on a different amount of segments. Multipliers occupy the remaining two segments. These are x 2 and x 7.
Betting takes place at the start of each game. The betting round is timed. Once all bets have been placed or the time allocated for betting has run out, the host or hostess will spin the wheel. As it slows down, the camera will zoom in, adding to the tension as players wait breathlessly to see if their choice of number will be the one to land.
Once the wheel has stopped spinning, and the winning number has been determined, all bets are settled. But if the wheel lands on a multiplier, all bets ride, and the wheel is spun again. The multiplier, either x 2 or x 7, is then applied to the winning number. If a few multipliers come up in a row, they will multiply each other. This means even a small bet can bring the potential of huge payouts. That won't happen very often, of course, but the possibility is there. This is probably the reason why Playtech have limited the maximum possible win.
Each number has a different amount of segments on the wheel, and this affects the payouts. Lower numbers have more segments and correspondingly lower payouts. These are all listed below.
As we said earlier, what sets Spin A Win apart from the competitors is the side bets. There are three of these, and you’ll see positions for them to the right of the main betting block on your screens. Here they are
Odds: Wager that the wheel will land on an odd number. There are 30 segments on the wheel containing odd numbers, and the payout is 0.75 to 1.
Even: Wager that the wheel will land on an even number. There are 21 of these, and the bet pays 1.25 to 1.
Multiplier: Wager that the wheel lands on one of the multipliers. If the wheel lands on one of the two multiplier segments, you can win 25 to 1 on your stake.
Although it looks a lot like Dream Catcher, Spin A Win has the added side bets to spice things up a bit. A simple, fun game that still gives players the chance of some really big wins even with low stakes, Spin A Win is perfect for all types of players. So why not give it a try here at Gala Bingo!
